As most parts of South Africa experiences heatwave conditions, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level 2 warning for disruptive snow in the Eastern Cape.
This warning is effective from midnight on Monday, 4 November, until midnight on Wednesday, 5 November.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has predicted snowfall in the high-lying areas due to a high-pressure system moving in from the southern regions of the country.
A southerly to south easterly wind will bring cold, wet conditions to several areas, including:
- Chris Hani District Municipality
- Joe Gqabi District Municipality
- Dr. Beyers Naudé
- Blue Crane Route
- Matatiele
- Umzimvubu
- Raymond Mhlaba Local Municipalities
This snow warning comes as the weather service also issued advisories for heatwave conditions affecting seven provinces over the weekend.
Specifically, Gauteng, Limpopo, Free State, North West, Mpumalanga, and northeastern areas of Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal are expected to experience hot to very hot conditions from Saturday, 2 November, to Monday, 4 November.
Temperatures in the Lowveld, Limpopo Valley, and Western Bushveld are predicted to exceed 40°C.
