Royal AM may face expulsion from the Betway Premiership if they fail to settle their debt and pay Serbian striker Samir Nurkovic the money owed to him.
The club, owned by Durban businesswoman and socialite Shauwn Mkhize, is currently under a FIFA-imposed transfer ban after Nurkovic claimed he was owed approximately R12 million following the termination of his contract in 2022.
The club challenged FIFA’s decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but their appeal was rejected, leaving their future uncertain.
Earlier this month, Royal AM was disqualified from the DStv Diski Challenge after being unable to register new players, preventing them from fulfilling their fixtures.
As a result of the registration ban, the club’s chairman and son of Mkhize, Andile Mpisane, has been appearing in several first-team matches.
According to PSL legal representative Michael Murphy, the decision to expel the club from the league is beyond their pay grade and will be determined by FIFA if Nurkovic does not receive the money he is owed.
