Rambling, tech-related Trump and Musk interview

Although his allegation could not be independently corroborated, Musk, who has endorsed Trump, attributed the problems to a distributed denial-of-service assault, which involves flooding a server or network with traffic in an attempt to bring it down

Trump attempted to turn the negative into a plus by praising Musk for the volume of viewers. During the long talk, a counter on X indicated that up to 1.3 million individuals were occasionally tuning in.

The technical difficulties brought to mind a comparable incident that occurred on X in May 2023, when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s Republican presidential candidacy got off to a wild start because of platform malfunctions.

Trump made fun of DeSantis at the time on Truth Social, his own social media network. “My Red Button is bigger, better, stronger, and is working (TRUTH!)” In a post, Trump said, “Yours does not.”

Musk posted on Twitter before the event on Monday, saying, “Am going to do some system scaling tests tonight & tomorrow in advance of the conversation.” When asked for information or proof of the purported cyberattack, X did not reply.

The two men frequently complimented one another, with Musk praising Trump for his willingness to fire employees who were demanding better working conditions, and Tesla (TSLA.O) opening new tab chief praising Trump for his bravery during the attempt on his life last month.

Trump remarked, “You’re the greatest cutter.” “I mean, I observe your actions. You simply say, “You want to quit?” as soon as you enter. They go on strike; I won’t say which firm they work for, but they do. ‘That’s okay, you’re all gone,’ you reply.

Shortly after Trump’s attempted assassination, Elon Musk, the richest person on the planet, declared his support for the Republican, even though the Republican opposed government assistance for electric vehicle manufacturers like Tesla. In 2020, Musk supported Democratic President Joe Biden; however, since then, he has leaned right.

As the conversation came to an end, he said to Trump, “I think we’re at a fork in the road of destiny, of civilization, and I think we need to take the right path, and I think you’re the right path.”

Trump had an uncensored opportunity to voice his typical combination of complaints, personal jabs, and exaggerated or untrue assertions during the conversation with Musk.

Musk allowed Trump to steer the debate and refrained from correcting his false claims, such as that foreign nations were trafficking prisoners out of their jails across the southern border of the United States or that the cost of bacon had increased four or five times.

Research indicates that immigrants—including those who are here illegally—commit no more crimes than Americans of native birth.

The discussion was Trump’s most recent attempt to steal the limelight from Vice President Kamala Harris, his Democratic opponent, whose last-minute entry into the contest has energized her party and increased Democratic funding.

Three weeks after Harris unseated Biden as the party’s nominee, she has made headlines with a string of exuberant rallies. The Democratic National Convention in Chicago the following week may provide her momentum with still another boost.

A spokesman for Harris’ campaign, Joseph Costello, issued the following statement following the interview: “Trump’s entire campaign is in service of people like Elon Musk and himself — self-obsessed rich guys who will sell out the middle class and who cannot run a livestream in the year 2024.”

Many listeners on X noticed that the former president had what sounded like a lisp at various times in his speech. A request for comment regarding Trump’s address was not answered by the Trump campaign.

HARRIS MOMENTUM

Trump repeatedly disparaged Harris, calling her “incompetent,” “third rate,” and “a radical left lunatic.”
Then he complimented her appearance.

Trump remarked, “She looks like the most beautiful actress ever to live,” in reference to an image of Harris that appeared on the cover of Time. He said, “It was a drawing, and actually, she looked very much like a great first lady, Melania,” making reference to Melania Trump, his wife.

He was also upset that Harris was now the Democratic ticket’s replacement for Biden.

“Since this whole scam started, she hasn’t done an interview,” Trump erroneously said, calling Biden’s departure off the ticket a “coup.”

In some polls of battleground states that will probably be crucial to the result of the election on November 5th, Trump had been leading Biden; yet, in some of the same states, he is now behind Harris.

Trump, who has long opposed electric cars, has changed his position in response to Musk’s support. On Monday, he called Tesla’s electric vehicles “incredible.”

Additionally, he lauded Kim Jong Un of North Korea, Vladimir Putin of Russia, and Xi Jinping of China as authoritarian strongmen at the “top of their game.”

TRUMP RETURNS TO X

For the first time in a year, Trump made a return to X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday with a series of posts. This revived an account that had been his primary means of communication during his four years in the White House and in prior campaigns, including the attack on the US Capitol by his followers on January 6, 2021.

Trump’s access to his account, @realDonaldTrump, was restored a month into Musk’s ownership of X after being suspended by the platform’s previous owners following the Jan. 6 attack, citing concerns he would incite violence.

Trump frequently posts on his Truth Social platform, which was launched in February 2022, but his posts there reach a much smaller audience than on X.

Musk established an outside super PAC spending vehicle to aid Trump’s campaign, echoing his deceptive statements regarding voter fraud and Biden’s immigration policy. In Michigan, the political action group is currently being investigated for potentially breaking state rules pertaining to voter data collection.
