PRETORIA – The Supreme Court has lengthened Oscar Pistorius’s prison sentence from six years to 13 years and five months.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) argued in its appeal that the six-year sentence was shockingly lenient for the crime of murder and asked that the prescribed minimum term of 15 years be imposed.
Pistorius shot and killed his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day in 2013. He has maintained he believed she was an intruder, and was merely trying to protect himself.
