JOHANNESBURG – Correctional Services says Oscar Pistorius has denied speculation that he tried to commit suicide.
It was reported Sunday morning that the former Paralympian and convicted murderer was taken to Pretoria’s Kalafong Hospital midday on Saturday.
Two security guards at Kalafong Hospital, which is situated east of Pretoria, said yesterday that Pistorius was admitted at 12.30.
Correctional services has said that the Paralympian told authorities he injured himself after falling out of bed.
Speculation in the media was initially rife that Pistorius had attempted suicide. His brother Carl has tweeted on the incident, also rejecting reports of a suicide attempt.
He says the athlete is doing well and in high spirits.

Kgosi Mapuru II Correctional Centre confirmed that they treated minor injuries on Pistorius and sent him to the hospital for further treatment before returning to the centre.
Pistorius was convicted of murder and given a six year sentence behind bars in July for killing his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day, 2013.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has decided to appeal the sentence, which it termed “shockingly lenient”.
