NUM says the mine has only paid salaries to permanent employees while the contractors have not been paid.
It is alleged that some of the contractors have not been paid for three months now.
NUM leader at Optimum, Jabu Mahlangu says, “Payment was made to permanent employees, leaving out employees that are contracted. As workers we said we cannot go back to work because if the contractors which are our brothers and sisters are not paid we cannot go back to work.”
Mahlangu says they also met with a business rescue expect who committed himself to provide assistance to the business to get out of the current financial crises.
