It is about to be an historic month with the elections that happened yesterday. Voters have casted their votes and everybody waits in anticipation for the final results to be announced. The African National Congress (ANC) was leader of the pack when the first eight councils were declared on Thursday morning.
The ANC took six of these councils‚ while the Democratic Alliance (DA) won two.
In the Northern Cape‚ the ANC won Thembelihle‚ Kamiesberg and !Kheis municipalities.
In the Eastern Cape the ANC won the Blue Crane Route and Sundays River Valley municipalities.
In Mpumalanga the ANC was victorious in Victor Khanye.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) has claimed its first victory over the African National Congress (ANC) as it took over Swellendam municipality in the Western Cape.
With 27% of the votes counted around 4am‚ the ANC was dominating the national map with 49.74% of the votes. The DA had won 34.16% of the votes and the Economic Freedom Fighters had taken 6.05% of the votes.
The sceptics believe the ANC is still a stronghold in the elections and believe an alliance might be the only way other major party can out number the leading African congress party.
In a last attempt to value the ethics and system of voters, we spoke to voters at polls but young and old and believe the support that are wide spread on the board of parties different from the ANC are largely from the youths but the young adults as well as the elderly still vote the ANC till date.

Majority of the elderly believes in giving the ANC a chance to better it’s stance, one of the elder at the poll said, ” its just like the game of soccer, you do not abandon your team because they did not perform well in one league, you wait for the next season”. While others maintain a stance that they do not want those who died fighting for the ANC to have done so in vain.
Thokozali Mdlati said ” A new party is a new game and the youths grew under luxury that the lost lives paved the way for, so many of them are novice to the struggle and are exposed to their immediate enviroment, so we do not blame them we understand our stance to keep the legacy, the likes of the DA would show their true nature soon for SA to decided.
