Power utility Eskom says the power system remains constrained, with the risk of Stage One loadshedding remaining for the next few days. It says the power system will take at least ten days to stabilise.
The power utility says this is due to the recent strike. Eskom obtained an interdict against the strike last week.
The power provider had accused striking workers of sabotaging the grid as well as intimidation of staff who wanted to come to work.
Management says it will resume wage negotiations with the unions on Tuesday. It says it will now put an offer on the table after refusing to give workers an increase.
Numsa’s Andrew Chirwa says they hope for a positive outcome at the renewed negotiations.
Eskom’s spokesperson, Khulu Phasiwe says suspects have been arrested and investigations are continuing.
“Investigations are on-going as a matter of fact so far 18 people have been arrested not necessarily related to the acts of sabotage but acts of intimidation and our power stations. The minister of Public Enterprises on Saturday indicated that Eskom has to up its offer so clearly the 0% offer is now off the table we’re starting afresh,” says Phasiwe.
