City of Johannesburg rolls out service delivery operations across seven regions
JOHANNESBURG — The City of Johannesburg has scheduled a series of High Impact Service Delivery and clean-up operations across all seven municipal regions, targeting areas including Soweto, Sandton, Braamfontein, Houghton, Roodekrans, Ivory Park and Lenasia South.
According to the City’s Week 39 High Impact Service Delivery schedule, the programme ran from 28 September to 2 October and brought municipal services together for coordinated interventions aimed at creating safer and better-maintained communities.
The schedule identifies 10 operations across Regions A to G, with individual interventions assigned to specific wards and problem areas.
In Region A, a clean-up operation targeted Ward 77 in Ivory Park, focusing on Freedom Drive from Jikeleza Street, Limpopo Street from Kusasa Street, Kusasa Bridge and Riverside Road. The assembly point was at Eco City on the corner of Riverside Road and Limpopo Street.
Region B‘s operation focused on Ward 86 in Sophiatown, while Region C targeted Ward 83, including Flame Lily, Platkroon and Frangipani Avenue as well as sections of Ouklip Road, CR Swart Road and Silver Tree Drive in Roodekrans Extension 3.
Three operations were scheduled in Region D. Wards 11 and 46 were targeted in Chiawelo Extensions 2 and 3 and Zondi, while a separate clean-up covered Ward 31 in Orlando, including streets around Orlando Stadium, Orlando Court and the children’s home. A further High Impact Service Delivery operation focused on Chiawelo Extension 2.
The programme also moved into some of Johannesburg’s busiest commercial and transport areas.
In Region E, Ward 103 was targeted along Sandton Drive, with teams assembling at the corner of Sandton Drive and Alice Lane in Sandown. Another operation covered Ward 73 around Houghton Drive and the M1 on-ramp, with an assembly point at Houghton Drive and Newtown Road in Killarney.
Region F included an operation in Ward 60 in Braamfontein, assembling at the Metro Centre, followed by an intervention in Ward 55 in Booysens Reserve. Region G‘s programme targeted Ward 120 in Lenasia South, with teams assembling at the Lenasia South Civic Centre.
The schedule shows the City’s service delivery programme extending across residential areas, business districts, roads and public spaces rather than concentrating interventions in a single part of Johannesburg.
The document also carries the identities of several municipal entities involved in city services, including Pikitup, Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo, the Johannesburg Roads Agency, City Power, Johannesburg Water, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department and emergency services.
The City describes the operations as an effort to strengthen collaboration in service delivery and create “safe, dignified, and well-maintained communities” across Johannesburg.
The Week 39 programme has now concluded, with the significance of the interventions depending on whether the work completed during the operations is followed by sustained maintenance and service delivery in the affected wards.
