JOHANNESBURG – MEC for Social Development in the North West Kgakgamatso Nkewu died in a fatal accident on the N18 near Vryburg on Thursday.
North West spokesperson, Brian Setswambung said the vehicle Nkewu was travelling in rolled several times and caught fire.
The MEC was travelling from Mahikeng to Taung.
“The accident involved MEC Kgakgamatso Nkewu, two VIP protectors and a bicycle driver whose who has also passed on and his identity cannot be released at this stage as his family is yet to be officially informed,” Setswambung said.
The two protectors who survived the accident are hospitalised and are in a critical state.
North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo said Nkewu was a hard working individual.
“This accident represents a tragic loss to the family, the North West Provincial Government and to the entire country. The Provincial Government has lost an extremely hard working public representative who lost her life while on duty,” Mahumapelo said.
