A 47 year old foreign national has been arrested and 10 teenage boys rescued during a police operation in Mulbarton, south of Johannesburg.
Police were alerted after members of the public noticed eight half naked teenage boys walking along a road in the area on Tuesday.
Officers responded to the scene and established that the boys were foreign nationals who were unable to communicate in English.
During preliminary investigations, police were informed that two additional teenagers had already been taken away in a blue VW Jetta.
The vehicle was later intercepted in the area, but the driver fled the scene, leading officers on a high speed pursuit that ended in Commissioner Street.
The chase resulted in the arrest of the suspect and the rescue of the two remaining half naked boys.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 8 January 2026, where he will face charges related to illegal immigration and suspected trafficking in persons. Police have confirmed that further investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Gauteng Hawks provincial head Major General Ebrahim Kadwa has commended the officers involved for their swift and coordinated response, highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary efforts in tackling human trafficking.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and have urged communities to remain vigilant and alert law enforcement to any suspicious activity.
