Alleged Crime Intelligence agent Brown Mogotsi has told the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry that he survived what he believes was an assassination attempt, describing the incident as a matter of luck.
The incident reportedly took place in October on the N3 near Vosloorus on the East Rand, where gunmen in a white bakkie allegedly opened fire on the vehicle he was travelling in. Several rounds struck the car, yet Mogotsi was not injured, prompting questions about how he managed to escape unharmed.
Testifying before the commission, Mogotsi recounted how he realised he was being followed before the attackers opened fire. He said he was able to accelerate and turn off the main road, allowing him to flee while the gunmen drove ahead and attempted to turn around.
Mogotsi told the inquiry he became increasingly uneasy when speculation arose that the incident was staged. He said these claims were made even before he had given an official statement about the attack, which added to his concern.
The commission is continuing to hear evidence related to the matter.
