Democratic Alliance (DA)leader Mmusi Maimane says government should play a crucial role in ensuring that mine workers are duly benefitting from the mines.
He was speaking during the DA’s Provincial Congress in Secunda, Mpumalanga.
Among other things, Maimane accused Deputy President David Mabuza of being corrupt.
He says as former Premier, Mabuza failed to improve the lives of poor people in the province.
He also called on the new provincial leaders of the DA to come up with strategies that will assist in attracting investors especially in the mining sector.
Meanwhile, Jane Sithole was elected unopposed as the new leader of the DA in Mpumalanga.
Sithole joined the Democratic Alliance in 1999. Since then she has occupied different positions in the party.
She says as the new provincial leader her main focus will be on ensuring that the tax payers money is properly used by the provincial government.
Outgoing provincial leader James Masango says he is still going to play a role in ensuring that DA membership grows in the province.
“I have been in the leadership of this party for almost 17 years now and I thought I have been with Tony Leon, Hellen Zille and Clive. I have to give to the new blood to take over. I am not going anywhere, I will remain the member of the legislature and still work for the DA. I will also assist the new leadership to ensure that DA becomes the winner at the end of the day,” he said.
