Midvaal area residents left homeless by tornado

JOHANNESBURG – At least 300 people are rebuilding their homes after a tornado hit the Vaal Marina area in Midvaal, Gauteng, on Monday.

Fifty people were injured.

Emergency services say the tornado caused extensive damage.

Midvaal Mayor, Bongani Baloyi, says two help centres have been set up by the municipality to help those who lost everything.

Baloyi says the electricity supply was completely cut-off last night.

Officials are still assessing the damage.
