South African journalist Melissa Reddy is said to be among seven reporters laid off by Sky Sports News as part of a significant restructuring effort at the UK-based broadcaster. According to The Sun, staff were informed of the decision through an internal memo circulated on Tuesday.
Reddy, who joined Sky Sports in 2022 as a senior football reporter, has been a prominent figure in Premier League coverage. She was particularly known for her in-depth reporting on Liverpool, as well as her coverage of Manchester United and Manchester City.
During her tenure, she interviewed several high-profile football figures, including former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp and ex-Manchester United coach Erik ten Hag.
Before her move to the UK, Reddy built her journalism career in South Africa, serving as deputy editor of Kick Off magazine. Over the years, she has spoken candidly about the hurdles she encountered as a woman of colour breaking into the male-dominated world of football journalism.
Reflecting on her experience in a previous interview with Gsport.com, Reddy shared that entering the sports media space as a young, foreign woman came with significant challenges. She said it demanded relentless perseverance and resilience, with every day presenting a new opportunity to prove herself.
Beyond her television appearances, Reddy was also a regular contributor to The Redmen TV YouTube channel, where she discussed Liverpool-related content.
Her personal life also attracted attention during her time in the UK, with reports linking her romantically to former Liverpool forward Sadio Mané, following his move to Bayern Munich.
