Mchunu awaits call to testify at Madlanga Commission
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu says he is prepared to respond to the allegations made against him but remains uncertain about when he will be called to testify before the Madlanga Commission.
Speaking in KwaZulu-Natal over the weekend during a visit to the home of the late Ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, Mchunu said he was awaiting official communication from the commission regarding his appearance.
Mchunu, who is currently on special leave, has been accused by witnesses at the commission of being influenced by criminal elements to disband the South African Police Service’s political killings task team.
He is also expected to address questions about his association with North West businessman Brown Mogotsi, whom he has acknowledged knowing.
African National Congress Secretary General Fikile Mbalula has since distanced the party from Mogotsi, stating that he is no longer an ANC member and must personally answer for any allegations made against him.
