The intensive efforts to fight serious and violent crime against women and children have yielded positive results when a 20-year-old accused was sentenced to a total of 16 years imprisonment on various charges.
The Upington Regional Court sentenced Eldino Rhyn Dino aged 20 to 12 years imprisonment for rape with five years suspended and four (4) years imprisonment for sexual assault of which five years is suspended.
The accused committed these offences during August and December 2014. In the first incident, Dino sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl while in another incident Dino followed a 14-year-old to a public toilet where she was also sexually assaulted. He was charged with rape on the first incident and sexual assault on the other.
The Provincial Management in the Northern Cape has welcomed this sentence and commended the investigating team for their commitment and endeavour in ensuring that offenders face the full might of the law
