The Commission for Gender Equality says it’s outraged and disgusted at allegations that twenty-nine boys have been abused by their coach in Protea Glen, Soweto.
The 34-year-old coach was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the rape of a nine- year-old boy at the academy. It’s alleged the boys aged between nine and eighteen were abused for months.
The Commission’s spokesperson, Javu Baloyi says the rape and abuse of boys is often not spoken about as it should be.
“We believe it’s time that as parents, we treat the boy child as a normal child, who has got emotions, whom we can interact with. And condemn the coach and whoever is associated with the academy and call for the immediate closure of that academy. And we are also appealing to society, to engage with the boy children and also seek other remedies in dealing with the issues that affect them,” says Baloyi.
