Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says MK Party president, Jacob Zuma is provoking him into a fight he is ready to confront without hesitation.
This comes amid a wave of prominent EFF members defecting to the MK Party, including former deputy president Floyd Shivambu, who left in August, followed closely by Mzwanele Manyi, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, and Dali Mpofu.
Rumors suggest that additional members may also be preparing to depart.
Commenting on these departures, Malema said, “I know them [those planning to depart], I will never leave my glass with them and go take a phone call. They operate as if they are smarter than us.”
In addition to attracting former EFF members, the MK Party has recently surpassed the EFF in voter support, moving up to third place and pushing the EFF down to fourth.
Speaking on the EFF’s podcast ahead of the party’s upcoming conference, Malema expressed confidence in facing off against Zuma.
“He’s inviting me to fight with him and I’ll do and I’ll do it with ease I’m not scared of Zuma or all of his people who are working with him. There is no way anyone is going to threaten the existence of the EFF and that person becomes a friend — it would be a lie.”
Malema also criticised former allies whom he feels betrayed the EFF and admitted that Shivambu’s resignation took him by surprise.
Despite these differences, both the EFF and the MK Party remain part of the progressive parliamentary caucus, united in their opposition to the Government of National Unity (GNU).
Next month, the EFF will hold its elective conference to select new leaders for its top five positions. Malema has led the party since its inception in 2013.
