Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has issued a strict warning to party members ahead of the party’s third elective conference, cautioning that anyone who misbehaves will face expulsion.

The conference, which will elect new leadership, comes after former deputy president Floyd Shivambu’s departure to join Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.

Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, Malema confirmed that the conference will be held from 12 to 15 December at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg.

He made it clear that any member who acts outside the party’s rules will be removed. “If you arrive and misbehave, we will take your tag and escort you out,” Malema warned.

He emphasised that all members must follow the EFF’s code of conduct, Constitution, and party guidelines, maintaining discipline under the chairperson’s authority.

Malema also stated that no delegate would be allowed to speak without the chairperson’s permission and warned that all attendees must use EFF-approved accommodation and transport.

Non-compliance with this directive will have serious consequences. “No one who stays outside the designated hotels will be allowed on the EFF shuttle. If you come from outside an approved location, there will be consequences for that misconduct,” he said.

These rules, Malema explained, are designed to maintain order at the conference and prevent misconduct.

He condemned behaviour such as booking hotels, buying alcohol, and leading delegates astray as unacceptable.

He further reiterated his stance against party representatives who fail to fulfill their responsibilities, saying that laziness and indiscipline will not be tolerated.

Malema stressed that the practice of electing individuals with poor leadership qualities, especially those with drinking habits, must end.

He warned that branch and regional leaders should not assume they are automatically candidates for leadership positions.

In a related matter, Malema highlighted the recent expulsion of EFF Members of Parliament (MPs), Members of Provincial Legislatures (MPLs), and councillors who failed to arrange buses for the party’s 10th anniversary celebration at FNB Stadium in 2023, further emphasising the importance of accountability and discipline.
