That’s after police allegedly failed to assist Katlego Joja’s family adequately.

The autistic 10-year-old girl went missing in Mamelodi West on 3 May.

When her mother and grandmother went to the police they were told to wait a day before reporting the child missing.

Katlego’s body was found in a nearby river three days later.

Makhura and Gauteng Health MEC Gwen Ramokgopa visited the grieving family.

He said the police station has been underperforming.

Makhura has now instructed the Community Safety MEC to take action.

“When an institution of government fails our citizens it breaks our heart. The police in this community face a lot of complaints. The community is unhappy with the quality of services. And Kat’s story brings this to the fore. This is not the type of service we want. I’m angry with police’s inaction in this area,” said Makhura.
