The Congress of the People (COPE) has conceded that the coalition government in Johannesburg has failed the people of Alexandra in the three years that they have been in power.
This emerged during a media briefing about on-going protests in Democratic Alliance (DA) led municipalities. COPE says the protests are being orchestrated by the African National Congress and will take the matter to the Human Rights Commission and the Independent Electoral Commission.
“Yes, we can explain why especially towards the end we were unable to implement what we set out to implement because some people who were part of the coalition put one foot in and one foot out. So the people need to give us power so that we can govern without looking over our shoulder,” says COPE President Mosiua Lekota.
