JOHANNESBURG – The North Gauteng High Court has dismissed the National Prosecution Authority and President Jacob Zuma’s bid to be granted leave to appeal a court ruling that corruption charges against Zuma should be reinstated.
Judge Aubrey Ledwaba and the full bench of the court has found that another court would find it difficult to come to a different conclusion.
In April, the North Gauteng High court found the prosecuting authority’s decision to drop corruption charges against Zuma was irrational.
The NPA argued the judgment has profound implications for its independence.
If successful, the case will go to the Supreme Court of Appeal.
The Democratic Alliance had asked the court to review the decision to drop the 783 charges of fraud, corruption and racketeering against Zuma, stemming from the multi-billion rand arms deal.
