LAWLEY, Lenasia South – The allegations of councilors and community leaders stealing and unfairly distributing food in Gauteng is not over yet, as residents of Lenasia south in Johannesburg calls out in a fresh plea to the government to assist in curbing these corruption allegations before they die of hunger.
A group of 10 desperate families in desperate need of the food parcels, is calling on the government to come to Lenasia south to investigate the alleged stealing of food parcel and unfair distribution.
The food parcels are allegedly stored in the house of the distribution aide in the community, and the group of families is calling for the government to investigate. To further avoid exploitation of the poor and needy people in the community.
In April, officials of the DA claimed it had been reliably informed that some Gauteng department of social development officials and politicians had allegedly been stealing and unfairly distributing food parcels that were meant to assist financially strained families during the lockdown period. This was followed by the opening of corruption cases against some officials for allegedly giving food parcels to their own families and not to poor people by Sanco officials in Pretoria.
The DA further recommended that municipalities’ registers be used to distribute food parcels, after which other means of giving parcels can be explored to accommodate those who qualify but are not on the register.
