JOHANNESBURG – The Restaurant Association of South Africa says it’s shocked by the Lake Restaurant’s policy which refuses entry to same-sex couples on Thursdays.
An Eyewitness News (EWN) investigation revealed how the Lake Restaurant in Brakpan doesn’t allow same-sex couples to dine at the establishment on “date nights”.
As reported on EWN website, two of their reporters booked and paid for “date night” but were denied entry on the basis that it contravened policy.
The regulating body’s chief executive officer Wendy Alberts says they will investigate the matter.
“Where a restaurant owner has the right to refuse admission to its clients, they are not allowed to by any means, on any grounds on sex, gender, race, preferences or equalities that the Constitution refers to in South Africa.”
The South African Human Rights Commission is also investigating.
