The diminutive midfielder made a return to Kaizer Chiefs playing squad in the last two games of the year much to the appraisal of his coach
Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela has praised Hendrick ‘Pule’ Ekstein following his cameo appearances at home to Polokwane City and away to Golden Arrows.
“Ekstein is okay… he hasn’t been playing in a while. Against Polokwane he wasn’t as shiny, but in our last match against Arrows, as soon as he went in, you could see the spark,” Komphela told reporters.
The 25-year-old started the team’s first eight league games, but was subsequently dropped thereafter following his purported unhappiness in his contract relating to his salary.
Since being promoted to the first team in the 2014/15 season under Stuart Baxter, the Randfontein-born has made 29 appearances in all competitions for the club.
He has found the net three times, with one coming this season to earn a 1-1 draw at home to Platinum Stars in September.
Moreover, the two wins against the Rise and Shine and Abafana Besthende has elevated them back into the title-hunt.
Komphela advises that they should utilize this moment by enjoying their upstart to gain more strength and energy to come back stronger in the New Year.
“We’ve been through some rough times, but let’s enjoy this moment, gather strength and get more energy so that when we start again in the New Year, we will be even stronger,” Komphela said.
The Glamour Boys will resume their PSL campaign at home to Free State Stars on February 7.
