Speaking to Afternoon Express’s Bonnie Mbuli and Jeannie D, Dladla opened up about how all the intense fan attention once made him consider quitting the life in the limelight in favour of a quiet life.
Dladla revealed that this career path is not what he initially wanted for himself.
Jeannie D then asked him what his craziest fan experience was to which Dladla responded “a few hospital visits, a few cuts here and there.”
According to Dladla, some fans don’t even realise that they are hurting him. The first time it happened, he ended up in tears and called home to let them know that he was considering giving up because a fan french kissed him. Tongue and all!
As a result, he has had to hire bodyguards to protect him but says that allows him to interact with fans better as he no longer lives in fear of what might go wrong.
Dladla also spoke about how he ended up in the arts as well as how he has never had to hide his sexuality as his family has always known that he’s gay.
Dladla said he was also a very energetic child and as a result of not knowing how to keep him entertained, his parents enrolled him in drama and ballet classes. He has been a working actor since the age of 8 but it took him 17 years to get his big break after being nudged into audition for Uzalo by Muvhango creator, Duma Ndlovu.
GC was originally supposed to only feature in 3 episodes but Dladla did so well that the character got promoted to a series regular and considering how loved he is, it is safe to say that, that is one of the best decision the show’s creators ever made.
