Communities in the Swartland and Bergrivier local municipalities are being warned of a heightened risk of veld fires on Tuesday, as soaring temperatures are expected to grip parts of the Western and Northern Cape.
According to the South African Weather Service, temperatures in some areas could climb into the high 30s and even low 40s over the next two days.
The combination of intense heat, dry conditions, and strong winds creates a dangerous environment for runaway fires.
Forecaster Joew Malebane advised residents, especially those travelling to or within Cape Town, to take necessary safety measures.
She noted that the extreme weather could affect people’s health and urged everyone to stay vigilant and take appropriate precautions to stay safe.
