JOHANNESBURG – The Home Affairs department and Minister Aaron Motsoaledi are unhappy with the Pretoria High Court order, directing Home Affairs to grant asylum to 22 Afghan nationals.

According to comments from an immigration official in Zimbabwe, there has been an influx of Afghanistan and Pakistan nationals in the country with doctored documents, hoping to deceive officials and topple the immigration system in their favour.

Last month, 8 Pakistan nationals appeared in court today after they were arrested for allegedly forging immigration visa approval letters to acquire Zimbabwean holiday visas. They were allegedly assisted by ministers in the country who harbored the men at their house, with the intention of trafficking them into South Africa.

He believes the 22 Afghan Nationals who were granted asylum by the court are part of the new syndicate who are now trying to manipulate the immigration system in southern Africa with the hope of getting documented in South Africa.

Minister Aaron Motsoaledi during an interview on ENCA says a certain American NGO is behind what he calls an attempt to undermine and ambush South Africa’s sovereignty.

Minister of Home Affairs Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi has accused the Lifeline Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO) based in the United States, of using the legal system to undermine South Africa’s sovereignty.

However, Motsoaledi stated that the department would challenge the court’s decision to allow the asylum seekers to enter the country.

“It is difficult to know the motive, but what I can tell you I think we are being undermined,” said Motsoaledi.

“There’s a belief that everything in South Africa obtains, you can go there and do whatever you want at any time you want.

“The Constitution and the legal system of the country will allow you to do so.”

He says he is very concerned and can’t take any chances.

“If I bring many people here with all this crime that is going around, and the Taliban is really looking for these people.

“What am I going to say to the population? What am I going to say to South Africans that I allowed people here who don’t know and now they’re crossing cross-fires?
