DURBAN – The Hawks are still searching for two men linked to the murder of a KwaZulu-Natal ANC ward candidate.
Thembi Mbongo of Newcastle was gunned down at her home on Saturday night.
She was killed in front of her husband, who was injured during the shooting.
The IEC says it’s too late to change candidate lists and Mbongo’s name will still appear on the ballot paper.
Should she win the ward, a by-election will be held after 3 August, re-opening the contest to all parties.
The Hawks say investigations are at an early stage but they aren’t ruling out the possibility that Mgongo’s killing was politically motivated.
