Pretoria – A 50-year-old, Briton man is to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court today on charges of drug dealing, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said on Sunday.
British national Graeme John Richards, who was arrested by SAPS’ Border Policing Unit last Wednesday, was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport after he was found dealing in Khat.
Khat is a leafy plant, indigenous to east Africa, and is used as a stimulant when chewed.
“They found him in possession of 26 kilogrammes of the drug Khat valued at R52 000. He was about to board a flight bound for Zürich,” said Brigadier Vishnu Naidoo.
Richards is due to make a formal bail application on Monday.
“He has been remanded in custody. The SAPS is planning to oppose bail to allow for the investigation team to conduct further investigations into the man. His passport shows that he had arrived into the country two days prior to being arrested,” said Naidoo
