Efforts to retrieve hundreds of illegal miners, known as zama zamas, from an abandoned mine in Stilfontein continued into another week, with four more emerging on Monday.
The miners resurfaced from Shaft 10 of the old Buffelsfontein gold mine—the same location where a dozen others were retrieved last week.
After receiving medical attention, they were handed over to the police for processing.
In November, authorities intensified their crackdown on illegal mining in the area, resulting in the arrest of over 1,200 zama zamas.
Charges included possession of gold-bearing material, trespassing, and violations of the Immigration Act.
