Former Ekurhuleni City Manager Imogen Mashazi has expressed concern that she has been unfairly treated during her appearance before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. Mashazi began giving evidence on Monday and continued her testimony on Tuesday at the commission’s hearings in Pretoria.
Throughout her testimony, she faced intensive questioning, and in several instances was unable to provide answers that satisfied the commissioners and the evidence leader.
The commission has now granted her until next Wednesday to gather the documents and information required to support her version of events, which her legal team will submit in a supplementary affidavit.
Before proceedings resumed, her attorney, Mr Moosa, raised the issue of potential prejudice. He told the commission that Mashazi felt she had been questioned on matters without having the relevant documentation at hand, placing her at a disadvantage during the hearings.
Mashazi is also reportedly worried about the effect the testimony may have on her public reputation. According to her attorney, she is concerned about how the past two days have shaped public perception of her as a senior public figure.
Moosa added that while it is impossible to undo what has already been said, the coming days will be used to prepare a detailed supplementary submission addressing the issues highlighted during her testimony.
