Manchester United and Liverpool will go toe-to-toe at Old Trafford for a spot in the FA Cup semi-finals.
This Sunday, two matches are scheduled to take place as the 2023–24 FA Cup quarterfinals come to a closing. The match between Chelsea and Leicester City at Stamford Bridge kicks off the action, followed by the main event between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford.
Manchester United advanced to the FA Cup quarterfinals after defeating Wigan Athletic, Newport County, and Nottingham Forest in their three previous rounds. However, the Red Devils’ impressive start to 2024 has been cut short when they dropped two of their last three Premier League games, leaving them out of the “top four” conversion.
Their counterpart, Liverpool, kept two clean sheets and conceded two goals in their victory to the FA Cup quarterfinals. They have defeated Southampton, Norwich City, and Arsenal to advance through. In spite of their fitness challenges, the Reds have bravely persevered, making it to the UEFA Europa League quarterfinals and holding the top spot in the Premier League table.
During their only clash this season, Manchester United held Liverpool at bay in a goalless draw.
Manchester United received an injury boost prior to today’s matchup. Their manager, Erik ten Hag announced at his news conference on Friday that Rasmus Hojlund, Harry Maguire, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are available for the matchup with Jurgen Klopp’s quadruple chasers.
Mason Mount is also expected to be included in the United’s squad for this match. Mount’s aspirations to start his Red Devils career were put on hold by a calf injury that has kept him out of action for four months.
Unlike his rival, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp did not have any positive news to share as he is without eight first-team players. The three most prominent absentees are Trent Alexander-Arnold (knee), Diogo Jota (knee), and Alisson Becker (hamstring).
