Reds Clinch Historic 20th Title After Thrashing Spurs
Liverpool have reclaimed their place at the summit of English football, securing their 20th top-flight title with a commanding 5-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
In doing so, they draw level with Manchester United’s record for the most league titles in English football history.
Under the leadership of new manager Arne Slot, the Reds have enjoyed a remarkable campaign, losing only twice in 34 matches to end Manchester City’s four-year dominance of the Premier League.
Slot, in his first season in England, has expertly lead a squad many had predicted would be entering a transitional phase following Jürgen Klopp’s departure.
Celebrations at Anfield as Goals Flow
The celebrations were well underway before the final whistle at Anfield, as goals from Luis Díaz, Alexis Mac Allister, Cody Gakpo, and Mohamed Salah secured an unassailable 82 points with four games still to play.
Salah, who has been instrumental throughout the campaign with 27 goals and 18 assists, reflected on the achievement:
“This is 100% better than last time [in 2020], especially with the fans. We have a different group now, so to show we can do it again is something special.”

Liverpool’s last Premier League title came in the pandemic-affected 2019/20 season, when Klopp’s side amassed 99 points to end a 30-year wait for league glory.
A Triumph Few Predicted
Few expected Slot to deliver immediate success, especially with no marquee signings and key players departing on free transfers.
Yet, against the odds, Liverpool were given just a 5.1% chance of winning the league in August, and the Dutchman has remarkably steered them back to the top.
Restoring Liverpool’s Dominance Over Manchester United
Beyond this season’s silverware, Liverpool’s triumph carries historic significance. By clinching their 20th title, they have erased the gap Manchester United opened under Sir Alex Ferguson, who famously said his greatest achievement was “knocking Liverpool off their perch.”
Now, the old rivals are tied again, although Liverpool’s superior European record [six European Cups to United’s three] bolsters claims that the Reds are the most successful English club overall.
When comparing the clubs’ honours boards, both Liverpool and Manchester United have amassed 68 major trophies if the Community Shield is counted. However, without including the Shield, Liverpool pull ahead with 52 major trophies to United’s 47.
Slot’s Instant Impact at Anfield
Slot’s achievement becomes even more remarkable when viewed in historical context. Previous managers like Gérard Houllier and Rafael Benítez, despite their successes, were unable to deliver a Premier League title during their time at Anfield. In contrast, Slot inherited a squad still rich in quality and experience.
Key figures from the 2019/20 title run, including Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, have been central to Liverpool’s resurgence. Alisson has kept nine clean sheets, while Van Dijk has marshalled the defence with trademark authority.

Evolution from Klopp’s Heavy Metal to Slot’s Pragmatism
While Klopp’s era was synonymous with heavy-metal football and high-energy pressing, Slot has introduced a more pragmatic and composed approach.
Less animated on the touchline but equally effective, Slot’s methods have proven to be the perfect evolution for a team already built on a winning culture.
A New Era Begins for Liverpool
Liverpool’s title triumph not only signals a new dawn under Arne Slot but also reaffirms their place as a powerhouse of English and European football.
With momentum firmly in their favour, the Reds’ latest success could herald a new era of dominance from Merseyside.
