Parliament has confirmed the resignation of Fana Mokoena, a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).
Sources reveal that Mokoena submitted his resignation letter to the party’s secretary-general, Marshall Dlamini, last week.
This occurred before Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane, a former Public Protector, submitted her own resignation letter.
Mkhwebane, who resigned from the EFF and as an MP on Wednesday, emphasised her desire to spend more time with her family and loved ones as her reason.
Mokoena first joined Parliament in 2014 as an EFF representative in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).
He moved to the National Assembly in 2016 and served there until stepping down in 2020. He returned to Parliament this June following the May 29 general elections and served on the Portfolio Committees for Trade, Industry, Competition, and Sport, Arts, and Culture.
Both Mkhwebane and Mokoena are notable figures who recently left the EFF, with many subsequently joining the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party.
