Minister in the Presidency Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, says women should withhold their vote in next year’s national election if government fails to allocate budgets that will focus on gender parity programmes.
She made the comments during an African National Congress (ANC) dialogue on International Women’s Day in Johannesburg on Thursday night.
Dlamini-Zuma says each department must specifically set aside parts of their budget to deal with socio-economic gender disparities.
“We will vote for the ANC but we want gender budget for the next year. We will vote for the ANC but that’s one of our conditions and that’s our demand for the next election. The budget must be desegregated to say what of this budget is going to women; young women and of course the youth but let’s start with women.”
Meanwhile, Minister in the Presidency responsible for Women and ANC Women’s League president Bathabile Dlamini says women are being excluded from being economically emancipated.
Dlamini warned about the issue of land expropriation without compensation being taken forward without involving women.
“The issue of the land. We have to prepare for that. And not just one household one hectare. People must not decide for us. We must say what we want.”
