NELSPRUIT – Extra security measures have saved a car dealer from about R5 million worth of vehicles that were already tempered and had some of the engines running. The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of today 02 February 2023 in Delmas.
The security firm that monitors the dealership around the clock captured footage showing suspects handling the gate of the dealership. The Delmas police were immediately contacted by the security guards who also made their way to the business premises. The quick response of the police and security personnel saved the dealership millions of rands, although the suspects fled upon the arrival of law enforcement to evade arrest, but the suspects’ mission was still not accomplished.
Upon further observation, it was discovered that the suspects had broken the locks of the gates to gain access to the compound. It is alleged that eight vehicles had already been unlocked and their dashboards slashed. It is believed that the suspects were trying to locate the tracking devices. Four of the vehicles were found to have their engines already running. The vehicles were four Toyota Fortuner, two Toyota Hilux GD6, and two Toyota Land Cruiser.
The Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, commended the excellent work done by both the police and the security company. “We will ensure that investigations are intensified until the suspects are caught,” the general added.
