City of Cape Town Mayor, Patricia de Lille says the Democratic Alliance (DA) is doing all it can to get rid of her as mayor.
This after the party approved a “recall clause” during its elective congress this weekend in Tshwane. The DA’s constitution was amended to allow the party to fire public representatives it has lost confidence in.
The amendment does allow for those accused of improper conduct to make representations and go through a disciplinary process.
A motion of no confidence in De Lille in the City council recently failed after opposition parties voted in her favour.
De Lille currently faces an internal disciplinary process on allegations of misconduct.
She says it is no secret that there are individuals within the DA who have been trying to get rid of her at any cost.
She says: “We have now seen that they went to the extent of changing the constitution through the newly passed De Lille clause showing just how far they are willing to go to avoid their own due process.”
Meanwhile, political Analyst Keith Gottschalk says battle lines are now clearly drawn between the DA and De Lille.
He says this is clearly a De Lille clause which the DA hopes will help dismiss the mayor without a lengthy legal battle and legal appeals.
