The DA says it will introduce a Private Member’s Bill on Energy in the National Assembly soon.
The party says the aim of the Bill is to persuade parliament to enact legislation which will provide for private energy producers to play a major role in the country’s energy production sector.
DA Spokesperson on Public Enterprises ,Natasha Mazzone, says recent load-shedding by Eskom indicates an urgent need for the energy sector to be reformed.
“We do not want to just realise an idealistic document, this will be a great dream kind of document… We are costing it, we are looking at the economic impact of it, we are looking at the labour impact of it, and we are looking at the feasibility of it and it is ready to go. We are in the last stage of it and we are hoping to realise it in month or two, ” said Mazzone.
