The Democratic Alliance wants Parliament to enact legislation providing for private energy producers to play a major role in the country’s energy production sector.
The party says it will introduce a Private Member’s Bill on Energy in the National Assembly soon.
DA Spokesperson on public enterprises Natasha Mazzone says recent load-shedding by Eskom indicates an urgent need for the energy sector to be reformed.
“We do not want to just release an idealistic document this will be a great dream kind of document. We are costing it. We are looking at the economic impact of it. We are looking at the labour impact of it. We are looking at the feasibility of it. And it is ready to go. We are in the last stage of it. And we are hoping to realise it in the months or two.”
