The African National Congress (ANC) says a direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic and details on the mobilisation of resources to realise government’s proposed reconstruction and economic recovery plan should form the basis of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA).
He will deliver his annual address to the nation on Thursday evening at 7pm.
This comes as the economy is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
ANC spokesperson Pule Mabe says they want to hear government’s plan to stimulate economic growth and create jobs.

Meanwhile, the South African Federation of Trade Unions (Saftu) says President Ramaphosa must be bold enough to introduce Co-operate Tax and announce measures to stop illegal cash outflows in his SONA.
The President will officially open Parliament in the presence of 50 people in line with the COVID-19 health protocols.
This comes at a time when the country faces an unemployment crisis as the economy remains in the red.
Saftu General-Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi says government has the means to turn the situation around.
