Consumer Inflation Holds Steady at 3.2% in February
South Africa’s annual consumer price inflation (CPI) remained stable at 3.2% in February, matching the figure recorded in January, according to data released by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) on Wednesday.
This marks a pause after three consecutive months of rising inflation from last year’s lower levels.
Stats SA’s Director for CPI Operations, Lekau Ranoto, noted that the month-on-month change in inflation showed a 0.9% increase.
Several categories contributed to the higher annual inflation rate in February, including recreation, sports and culture, food and non-alcoholic beverages, alcoholic drinks and tobacco, as well as communication.
However, inflation eased in other areas such as personal care, miscellaneous services, health, restaurants, and accommodation.
