OHANNESBURG – A decision is expected on Thursday on whether to approve a deal to create the world’s biggest brewer.
The Competition Tribunal is set to announce whether it’s ratifying the merger between SABMiller and the maker of Budweiser, AB Inbev.
That’s after considering submissions by government, competitors like Heineken and the Food and Allied Workers Union.
Last month, the Competition Commission recommended the deal be approved with conditions to protect competitors and prevent job losses.
Once approved in South Africa, there will still be one final hurdle.
US authorities will have to give the merger the green light.
