The City of Tshwane has announced two planned water supply interruptions in Atteridgeville as part of a project to upgrade pipelines and improve water service delivery.

The first interruption is scheduled for Wednesday, 11 June. During this time, municipal technicians will begin upgrading a 75 millimetre uPVC pipeline to a larger 200 millimetre uPVC line. The project will cover a 56 metre stretch from the connection point along Masopha and Hlakola streets to Maseremule Street. Work will take place between 8:00 in the morning and 16:00 in the afternoon.

According to the City, this upgrade is essential for improving water pressure and ensuring more reliable supply to residents. Increasing the pipeline size is expected to reduce pipe bursts and minimise water losses in the area.

The second interruption will take place on Wednesday, 18 June, at the Atteridgeville Taxi Rank located at the corner of Maunde and Schurveberg streets. Technicians will install 150 millimetre PVR pipe fittings. This phase of the work will also run from 8:00 until 16:00. Water supply during this time will be affected in Atteridgeville Extensions 17 and 18.

Although the interruptions may cause inconvenience, the City has emphasised the long-term benefits of the project. These include improved water pressure management during high demand periods and a longer lifespan for water infrastructure.

The City has also encouraged residents to support broader water management efforts by adopting simple conservation habits. These include avoiding the use of hosepipes or sprinklers to water gardens between 6:00 and 18:00, not washing vehicles with hosepipes, and refraining from filling swimming pools during periods of high demand.

Tshwane authorities have assured residents that every effort will be made to complete the work within the allocated time. The City has also expressed its appreciation for the community’s patience and understanding while these essential improvements are carried out.
