Minister in the Presidency Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma says cabinet members ought to be the main drivers of the implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP).
Government has set a target of creating eleven million new job opportunities at least by 2030 as part of reducing the high rate of unemployment as envisaged in the NDP.
Answering oral questions in the National Assembly on behalf of Dlamini-Zuma, Defence Minister, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula says Director Generals of various departments require guidance from their political principals.
“My view is that the champions of the NDP should be the members of the executives themselves. Yes, you do have a Department of Planning and equally have a Department of Monitoring and Evaluation. There are tools which have been in place for monitoring and evaluation of each one of the government departments. But also for monitoring and evaluation of government cluster work.”
