KIMBERLY – The Defence Force has dismissed claims that its soldiers deployed to SADC’s DRC mission lack proper tools and support, stating that they are well-trained and adequately equipped.
The criticism arose following the death of two officers in a mortar attack in North Kivu.
The officers were buried with military honours in Pretoria and Kimberley on Saturday.
Thabang Semono and close to 3,000 army colleagues arrived in the DRC on 2 February.
Semono had been deployed to DRC three times through the SANDF SADC mission since joining the military in 2006.
Mkhulu Bobe, who also died in the mortar attack, was buried in Kimberley.
