Andrew’s former royal Bentley is on sale for around R1.6 million
LONDON — A Bentley once used by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has appeared for sale at a British dealership, giving buyers an unusual opportunity to own a luxury car with a direct connection to the former prince.
The Bentley Flying Spur V8 S was registered in 2017 and was previously photographed being driven by Andrew, according to the vehicle’s documented history reported by British media.
It has now been listed by Surrey-based luxury and performance car dealership Bramley Motor Cars for £69,995, equivalent to roughly R1.6 million at current exchange rates.
The four-door Flying Spur was one of Bentley’s flagship luxury saloons and combines limousine-style accommodation with the performance expected from the British marque.
Its 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 produces about 521bhp, allowing the large luxury sedan to accelerate from 0-100km/h in approximately five seconds and reach a top speed of more than 300km/h.
The vehicle has covered relatively low mileage for its age and is being marketed partly on its unusual provenance.
Andrew was frequently associated with luxury vehicles during his years as a working member of Britain’s royal family, including Range Rovers, Bentleys and other high-end models.
The Bentley’s appearance on the used-car market comes years after Andrew withdrew from public duties following controversy over his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and a civil sexual assault case brought by Virginia Giuffre, allegations Andrew denied. The civil case was settled in 2022 without an admission of liability.
The car itself has no connection to those allegations, but its former owner is likely to be the feature that distinguishes it from other used Flying Spurs currently on the market.
For collectors, royal connections can sometimes add value to otherwise ordinary production vehicles, although there is no guarantee that provenance alone will make a car appreciate.
At £69,995, the Bentley is now available for a fraction of what a comparable Flying Spur cost when new, offering its next owner both a high-performance luxury saloon and an unusual piece of modern British royal motoring history.
