JOHANNESBURG – The ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) said they view the alleged influence of the Gupta family in cabinet appointments in a serious light.
“We think these allegations are serious, they provide an opportunity for the organisation to take leadership and guide how the matters need to be handled, and also deal head-on with the root issues,” said Secretary General Meokgo Matuba in a statement.
The ANCWL also noted the statement by Deputy Minister of Finance Mcebisi Jonas which claimed that the Guptas offered him a position of Finance Minister, the statement said.
The ANCWL said members should heed Gwede Matashe’s call to come forward through organisational processes and not deal with the issue through the media.
The Women’s League said making allegations in the media is not in line with organisational discipline.
“The seriousness of these allegations stand to threaten the integrity of the ANC as a governing party and its deployment processes even in the future,” Matuba said.
“We implore the NEC to give proper guidance and engage properly with the affected parties, and take leadership of the Alliance and society not the other way round.
“We also urge leaders of our movement to refrain from the media frenzy and engage on the issues this coming weekend,” said Matuba.
