A follow-up pre-trial conference for the murder case of rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes and celebrity chef Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane has been set for June next year, with the trial expected to commence the following month.

The development follows a tense session at the Durban High Court where Judge Jacqueline Henriques expressed frustration over the slow progress of pre-trial proceedings.

The case involves five accused: Thabani Mkhwanazi, 30, Lindani Zenzele Ndimande, 35, Siyanda Eddie Myeza, 21, Mziwethemba Harvey Gwabeni, 36, and Lindokuhle Mhlaliseni Ndimande, 29.

They face multiple charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder and firearm-related offences.

Forbes and Motsoane were shot and killed at the now-closed Wish restaurant on Florida Road in February 2023. Arrests were made in connection with the killings in February 2024.

The state has indicated that it plans to call 45 witnesses but is withholding statements from some for safety reasons.

Defence counsel is considering an application to compel disclosure of these statements.

Pending issues between the state and defence will be addressed during the pre-trial conference, which will also allow for the appointment of a trial judge.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority, the trial is expected to run from July 2026 through mid-October.

Dates were determined following consultation between both parties and aim to ensure all pre-trial matters are resolved before proceedings begin.
